Far From Home Food

Stuck in lockdown away from home? If you are like me stuck in you rented house away from home due to lockdown. Then this blog is just for you!

In this blog, you will learn how you can make comfort food, just like mom used to cook. Due to lockdown I got stuck in my work town and couldn't go home. And it's really getting frustrating, to follow the same routine every day for the last 20+ days. Wake up, take conference calls, cook and sleep. Sometimes you feel like, it's better to stay hungry rather than to cook something.

So in this blog, you will learn how to make home-style comfort food with minimal effort and at a fast pace! So when we call comfort food, it should touch the soul and make us feel home just like mom used to cook.
So today's soul food will be Veg Chowmien / noodles just like mom used to make on a Sunday evening. Everyone likes chowmein, be it veg, egg, or chicken!
The following would be in our ingredients list:-
1. Boiled Chowmein / noodles
2. One medium-size onion
3. 50gms soya bean
4. Choice of veggies( like cabbage, carrot, tomatoes )
This dish will give you around 28 gms of proteins ( 24 - 25 grams from soya bean, rest from the chow ), it's better you opt for a whole wheat chow rather than refined wheat flour ( maida) chowmein which is readily available. But the choice is completely yours as also it will be quite expensive to get a whole wheat chowmein so regular one will be used by me.

You would probably think, there are 1000's of the video up there on YouTube which literally shows you how to make great food recipes than would you probably read this blog? Sure it's 100% true but the fact is that what they will be preaching you would more likely to be a restaurant-style noodle but not the comfort/mom cooked food!

Though the process will be exactly the same but there some small factors you should keep in mind. Use minimum quality of items ( as it's lockdown and we should limit the usage of the products even if we have enough to spend ), don't be embarrassed by what you cook as Gordon Ramsey became a Michelin Star chef after years of practice, and most importantly share a pic of what you cook with your family these will bring confidence and a smile on their face!
I like the way she cooks but you can skip any part you wish to Kabita's Kitchen as you are cooking soul food, which is homely and touches your soul!
